Climate change and global warming are unavoidable topics in today's world. They're too large to think about in our day-to-day lives but that doesn't mean they're not having a growing impact on our day-to-day lives. This is especially the case for companies who can potentially impact the environment around them.
No individual or no individual company is going to solve global warming. It's a macro-level issue that would need the whole world to take a turn in the right direction.
But every company needs to address the environment on a micro level.
EU regulations have been developed over decades to protect our natural resources. Companies are required to be compliant with EU regulations to avoid fines, closure or criminal proceedings. The EU has developed some of the world's highest environmental standards and the EU commission for the environment oversees all government-led regulation in each of its individual countries.
In Ireland, the Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for administering and enforcing environmental regulation. The EPA is backed by the court system and led by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government.
Maintaining compliance with the EPA and the EU requires a qualified expert on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
EIA is an increasingly important element of the EU’s environmental policy. The EIA process ensures that projects that are likely to impact the environment are assessed in advance of their start date. EU policy requires a qualified expert to conduct that assessment. Portobello Institute is offering a qualification in Environmental Impact Assessment.
Portobello’s Environmental Impact Assessment programme is a 14-week course delivered through blended learning. It provides a critical overview of the theory and practice of EIA as operated within Ireland under international legislation.
The online webinars are delivered by a group of experts in EIA who also offer a wealth of experience within the industry. Each student is assigned an academic tutor who can be contacted through email, phone or a one-to-one meeting. Webinars take place on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm but are recorded so they can be watched back at any time.
