Not Happy With CAO Round Zero Offers? Consider Portobello Institute for Direct Application

What are Round Zero offers?

If you weren’t familiar with them, you would question what Round Zero offers even are. Surely offers start at round one? Well, if you were one of the many thousands that sat the Leaving Cert only two months prior then yes, it does start at round one.

Round Zero offers are made to CAO applicants that are not competing with students awaiting the results of the most recent Leaving Cert exams. There are a number of ways that someone can qualify for a round zero offer. Graduate entry medicine applicants fall into this category. It is also available to mature students, those who have deferred their offers from previous years, Access students, and those coming from previous QQI FET / Fetac qualifications.

In 2022, round zero offers were issued at 10 am on Friday, 5 August.

What if I don’t get my Preferred Choice in the CAO Round Zero Offers?

It can be a tricky situation when you are not offered your preferred option in round zero. Depending on your situation, you may have waited a year or more just to get the course you want or go on to do a PLC course in order to meet entry requirements. In that case, it can cause a sense of panic as the prospect of waiting even longer for your desired course becomes more of a reality. Even worse, it might seem like you have to give up on your chosen path altogether. But there is another option, Portobello Institute.

How do you apply directly to Portobello Institute? We're going to outline the steps for you:

Step 1 – Visit our website

The first step in the process is to visit our website and more specifically our departments page. There you will find all the courses that Portobello has to offer across a range of industries and disciplines. Each course page is chock-full of information that you can use to make a fully informed decision on your future.

Step 2 – Speak with one of our experts

Once you have gathered some information on the courses you are condifering, the next step is to speak with our expert advisors. Each department has its own specialised advisor that will talk to you about your previous experience, suitability for the course, and any other queries you may have when it comes to your course or studying at Portobello Institute in general. Our admissions team is here for you one-to-one and will guide you through everything you need to know.

Step 3 – Send in relevant transcripts and material

Once you have spoken to one of our advisors, they will ask you to send in any material deemed relevant to the course that you are applying to. These could be assignments from previous qualifications or other materials. These will be used to assess your suitability for that specific course.

Step 4 – Book an interview call

Once your transcripts have been sent in and reviewed you will speak with one of our advisors once again. This call takes on more of an interview approach where they will ask you questions to see how well-suited you are to the programme. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask any final questions you may have.  This is generally an informal call to answer any questions you may have at this point.

Step 5 - Accept your offer

After a successful interview, you will then be offered a place for the degree you have applied to. You will then have an allotment of time to accept the offer and take your place on the course.

Step 6 – Follow Your Passion

Once you have accepted your place, it is then time to unlock a world of opportunities, follow your passion, and achieve the career path that you want!
