Trying to get your head around the different pathways to becoming a fully qualified PE teacher can be difficult. With so many different ways of achieving the same goal, it can get overwhelming trying to understand them all.

In this article, we will explain the ways in which Portobello Institute can help you on your way to becoming a PE teacher.

The very first thing you can do is enrol and complete our BA in Physical Education. The course is accredited by Liverpool John Moore’s University, a top three-ranked sports science university in the UK and ranks 15th on the QS World University Rankings 2022.

On the course, you will learn the fundamentals of sports science and teaching skills within the area of physical education from some of the top sports science and PE minds in the country.

This course is ideal for young learners coming straight from the Leaving Cert or after taking a gap year. There is a requirement of Leaving Cert Biology. However, we can offer an Anatomy & Physiology add-on that also meets our requirements if you did not study biology.

From there, one can go on to do a Post Masters in Education in PE (Ireland) or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (UK) which then enables you to teach PE at secondary school level in Ireland.

Alternatively, if you already hold a Level 8 degree you can do a Graduate Diploma in Physical Education with Portobello Institute. If you are already teaching, this qualification gives you the opportunity to upskill and add Physical Education to your professional remit. If you already hold a degree in Sport, this course will provide you with the additional modules required to gain access to a professional masters in PE and begin your journey to becoming a PE teacher.

Your pathway to PE Teaching doesn't need to be as complicated as it first seems. Portobello Institute provides a direct pathway to success for learners who want to become PE Teachers.
