Portobello Presents: Dr Mary O' Kane on Raising Resilient Children
Dr Mary O'Kane is a well-known leader and an expert in the field of early childhood care and education.

This webinar has been specifically designed for early years practitioners and professionals, thought-leaders, parents and those who are interested in learning more about resilience in early years.

Dr Mary O'Kane is a Lecturer in Psychology, Early Childhood Studies and Education.
Her research interests include childhood transitions; self-esteem and wellbeing, and the value of play.
Mary is a regular contributor to Newstalk Radio; Ireland AM, and a range of other national and local radio shows discussing a broad range of parenting issues.
Dr Mary O'Kane, originally studied Psychology in the UK, then specialised in the area of Early Childhood while undertaking her Master's and Doctorate at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in Ireland.
Dr O'Kane is an Associate Lecturer in Psychology and Early Childhood studies with the Open University, covering areas such as Child Development; Childhood Studies and Child Psychology; Young Children's Lives and Learning; and Young Children's Play and Creativity.
She frequently appears on both national and local radio, such as Today FM, Newstalk, Ireland AM and more to discuss a range of parenting and early childhood education topics.
She is the author of Perfectly Imperfect Parenting: Connection Not Perfection, a book that supports parents in how they can and should support children's long-term social and emotional development while boosting wellbeing and resilience and building independence of character. It is available here.

Dr Mary O'Kane will be joined on the night by Portobello Institute's Dr Marguerita Magennis and Kellie Duggan who are both part of the passionate lecturing team in the early years department.

With over 20 years of experience in education, Marguerita's passion lies in helping adults returning to education and supporting students in their academic journeys. Throughout her career, she has had the privilege of working with renowned authors and researchers in the field of early education, who have greatly influenced her career and research.
Kellie Duggan - Early Years Lecturer and Educator
Kellie, is a motivated and passionate educator. She began her journey with a BA in mathematics and a PGCE in primary education in East London. Her leadership role in mathematics led her to discover her love for early years education. In 2007, she founded Kickstart Education, opening three successful early learning centres in Wexford. Kellie gained her Masters in Early Childhood Studies at Portobello Institute. She now lectures in Durham Further Education College, while still managing several preschools in Ireland.
