We understand that choosing the right qualification is a big decision, especially when you're balancing work and study.
In this blog, we answer some of the most frequently asked questions about our Special Needs Assisting (SNA) courses.
If you have a question about our SNA programmes, you can book a call with our admissions advisor Jennifer Matteazzi, or email Jennifer.matteazzi@portobelloinstitute.com
What is the difference between a Minor Award and a Major Award?
A Minor Award recognises completion of an individual module or unit of learning.
A Major Award represents a full qualification made up of multiple modules, usually eight modules, and provides progression opportunities to the next level on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Is it mandatory to attend classes?
Portobello Institute offers SNA courses as intensive programmes designed to suit busy schedules.
Webinars are delivered daily through live, tutor-led sessions that are interactive and informative. All sessions are recorded, so learners can review the material if they cannot attend live.
Is work experience required?
Yes. Each module typically includes 20 hours of work experience, which helps support the assignments and practical understanding of the course material.
What are the assignments like?
Assessments vary across modules and are designed to help each learner succeed.
Rather than a single final exam, assessments may include:
- Learning journals
- Essay-style assignments
- Written reports
Are there payment options available?
For SNA courses, payment must be made in full, as the course content is available to learners from the first day of the programme.
Is funding available?
Some learners may be eligible for funding through social welfare schemes.
Students are advised to speak with their local Intreo office or caseworker to explore available funding options.
