How Do You Apply For a Place in Portobello if You Are Doing Your Leaving Cert?

12 Sep 2023

Making the decision of where to study after leaving school can be a difficult decision. If you are choosing a course for the career you want and are considering Portobello Institute, we are here to help you through the application process.

If you are coming straight from your Leaving Cert the main thing to know is that you apply to our courses directly to us, there is no need to go through the Central Applications Office (CAO) or any other application system.

This is also relevant for anyone who has been out of school for a short or significant amount of time. If you are coming back to education as an adult, the same application process applies to all Portobello Institute learners.

Step by Step: How to Apply for a Course at Portobello Institute

Research

You've probably been doing a lot of research about what, where, when and how to study.

We've laid out our website, departments and course pages to make all the information you need easily accessible to help you in making your decision.

Each page is full of information such as modules, career opportunities, student success stories, fees and anything else you would like to know. One of the biggest questions you might have is whether to study your course through the full-time delivery mode or the blended learning mode. Learners coming straight from school tend to choose full-time study as your classes will be held on campus in person during the week while blended learning is delivered online, mostly at weekends to allow for full-time work and this usually suits people coming back to education who need to balance work and family life.

We highly recommend that you read all of the course information a couple of times and take note of any questions you may still have.

As part of your research, it may be helpful to you to attend one of our online virtual open evenings.

Book a One-to-One Consultation Call

Even if we pack as much information as we possibly can into our course pages, it is understandable if you still have some questions. In fact, we love it! If you have any doubts or questions about a course we advise that you book a one-to-one consultation call with our expert admissions advisors. Each person on our team is an expert in their subject area from entry requirements to fees, student support and payment plans.

They will be able to help clear up any questions you may have and they can assist you with your application.

The contact details for each of our admissions advisors are located at the end of this article.

Apply Online

At Portobello Institute, the application process begins on the course page on our website.

For example, if you decide that you want to apply for the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy full-time course you would go to this course page, and click 'Ready to Apply' at the top of the page which brings you to the part of the page where you choose full-time or blended learning.

Wait for your offer

Once you’ve sent in your application, it will be reviewed and you will be contacted by one of our expert course advisors. They will organise an informal interview and should you be successful, you will receive an offer to take your place on the course.

If you decide on your course early on in your school year, we can give conditional offers before you even sit your first Leaving Cert exam, which will ensure a place for you in Portobello once the conditions of the offer have been met.
