Are classes online or in person?

Classes are delivered through blended learning, which means a combination of online lectures and in-person practical sessions.

This approach allows students to gain the theoretical knowledge online while developing practical skills during scheduled on-campus sessions.

How quickly can I gain a qualification?

The full degree typically takes three years to complete. However, for the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy, it may be possible to complete the qualification in two years through advanced entry, depending on your previous qualifications.

How can I qualify for advanced entry?

Advanced entry may be possible if you already hold a relevant sports or health-related qualification.

Your qualifications and experience will be reviewed during the application process to determine whether you are eligible to enter directly into a later stage of the programme.

When are the lectures?

Lecture schedules depend on the study mode.

Blended learning

· Online lectures typically take place during the week

· Practical classes are usually scheduled at weekends

Full-time study

· Classes are generally held two to three days per week on campus at Portobello Institute

Will I need to attend the college in person?

Yes. Some on-campus attendance is required for practical classes and assessments, even if you are studying through blended learning.

These sessions allow students to develop hands-on skills that are essential for careers in sport and rehabilitation.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. Portobello Institute offers flexible payment plans.

Students can secure their place with a deposit, followed by monthly instalments for the remaining balance.

Can I become a physiotherapist after completing the Sports Therapy degree?

The Sports Therapy degree does not qualify you as a physiotherapist.

However, it can provide a pathway to postgraduate study, such as applying for a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy.

Will I become CORU registered after completing the Sports Therapy degree?

No. This programme does not lead directly to CORU registration.

CORU registration requires completion of an approved physiotherapy qualification.

Can I become a PE teacher with the Sports Coaching & Physical Education degree?

This degree can provide a pathway to becoming a Physical Education teacher.

However, graduates will usually need to complete a Professional Master of Education (PME) or another recognised teaching qualification.

Can I receive a Teaching Council number after completing this degree?

No. You cannot receive Teaching Council registration from this degree alone.

To become a registered teacher in Ireland, you must complete an approved teaching qualification such as a PME after graduating.
