As the voice of the engineering profession in Ireland for more than 100 years, Engineers Ireland is one of the oldest professional bodies in Ireland. It has over 25,000 members coming from every discipline of engineering, ranging from students to fellows of the profession.

Portobello Institute is the only college in Ireland offering students the opportunity to study at a Level 8 and Level 9 level in Facilities Management.

What is the BSc (Hons) Facilities and Workplace Management?

This is a three year degree that draws on a range of disciplines from financial to risk management, leadership to project management, and operations management to innovation and business development.

It is delivered by experienced industry professionals who have filled different roles at various levels of facilities management.

Some examples of what graduates have learned from this course are:

  • Critical analysis and problem solving
  • The foundations for developing strategic decision making skills
  • Key theories, concepts and frameworks underpinning the study of business management in a facilities management context
  • How to relate theory to real-life work scenarios
  • How facilities management fits in the broader context of how modern organisations perform
  • An understanding of the effects of the external environment on facilities management

Attaining a degree in facilities management opens opportunities and pushes graduates to the front of the queue when promotions are being considered.

This degree is for those who meet the entry requirements, but our IWFM qualifications can be used as entry onto the course for those who don't immediately meet the requirements.

What is the MSc Facilities and Workplace Management?

This is a unique master's degree that lasts one year. It builds upon the student's existing knowledge and experience from undergraduate studies or experiential learning in the workplace. Thus, it develops the critical and practical skills that can be applied in the practice of facilities and workplace management.

In this highly competitive global market, a master's degree can be the difference between those working at the highest level.

The degree has been designed to encourage student interaction and contribution by developing different abilities in each individual. These abilities are:

  • How to work independently
  • How to propose solutions to problems in a systemic and effective manner
  • How to develop solutions to problems in a systemic and effective manner
  • How to communicate confidently and clearly in writing
  • How to communicate confidently and clearly verbally

Graduates from Portobello's BSc (Hons) Facilities and Workplace Management degree can apply to the master's degree immediately upon completing their final year. Each student is assessed individually before being accepted onto the course.
