Portobello Presents: Pathways to PE Teaching

Portobello Presents: Pathways to PE Teaching with UL and LJMU
Have you always wondered about how to get into PE teaching? How to use your current degree to progress to PE? How to add PE to the subjects you can teach or how to start out from scratch on this path? If so, this free, informative webinar is for you.

Senior speakers from top Irish and UK universities will speak at Portobello Institute Sports Department’s upcoming webinar on Pathways to PE Teaching.

The webinar will feature Dr Antonio Calderon Director of Physical Education PME from the University of Limerick and Ceriann Magill, Senior Lecturer and Susan Walker, Programme Leader for the PE PGCE/PGDE from Liverpool John Moore’s University.

LJMU is the awarding body for Portobello Institute’s BA in Physical Education. The speakers from LJMU and UL will share their knowledge about the various progression routes, entry requirements, and criteria for PE Teaching and guide you on the best routes available depending on your background.

There will also be first-hand accounts on PE pathways from Portobello Institute tutor, Anthony Sheriff, who attended LJMU, as well Colm Dunne, who is a recent graduate of our BA (Hons) in Physical Education who went on to complete his Professional Master of Education.

Jo Shaw is Portobello Institute’s Sports Development and Admissions Advisor. Prior to working with us, Johanna worked in TCD and Kingston College in the UK. She completed an MPhil in Physical Activity for Health and a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science. She will be in attendance answering your questions on the evening of the webinar.

This event is suited to:

  • Teachers who want to add PE to their professional remit
  • Anyone with a sports degree background interested in PE teaching
  • Anyone with a non-sports degree background interested in PE teaching
  • Anyone with no formal background in education looking to start a new career path
The free webinar will take place online on Wednesday 26th January at 7 pm.
