What Can I Do With Sport at Portobello Institute?

Portobello Institute offers many quality sports courses across an array of disciplines awarded by some of the top Universities in the world. With all the different terminology used in each, it can be tough to get your head around which course will allow you to go down what path.

In this article, we’re going to go through each course offered within our sports department and outline clearly what careers you can hope to achieve with each one.

BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy

Sports Therapy is a recognised healthcare profession that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and patient rehabilitation. In addition to pursuing a career as Sports Therapist, one of the biggest appeals of doing our BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy is the ability to move on to further study, with many of our graduates going on to do a Masters in Physiotherapy both here in Ireland and further afield. It is a particularly attractive prospect if you, like many in this country who aspire to be a physiotherapist, cannot or did not enter at undergrad level due to the CAO’s minimum entry requirements or small intakes.

However, if further study isn’t for you upon completion, our graduates have gone on to join teams both for high-performance sporting teams and institutions or go on to work in clinics helping clients with musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

BA (Hons) in Physical Education

For a full in-depth look at all the pathways to becoming a PE teacher through Portobello, you can read our Pathways article here.

After completion of our BA (Hons) in PE, you can go on to do a PME in PE in Ireland or a PGCE in PE in the UK which will lead to becoming a fully qualified PE teacher.

Further study is also an option, which brings us on to:
